Call to Action!

We have been given perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity to provide input in the creation of the first U.S. national plan for Alzheimer’s.

In January, legislation was signed into law to create the first national plan for Alzheimer’s with input from a public and private Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care and Services.

Members of that Advisory Council have asked Alzheimer’s Tennessee to gather input from our constituents to “roll up” to them, as they meet to make recommendations to the administration and Congress for the national plan.

If you are living with this disease today, you know that therea are key areas of investment that may pay incredible dividends in the areas of care and treatments. We want to hear from you.

NAPA

The National Alzheimer’s Project Act (NAPA) creates an important opportunity to build upon and leverage U.S. Department of Health and Human Services programs and other federal efforts to help change the trajectory of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

The law calls for National Plan for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) with input from a public –private Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care and Services. The Advisory Council will make recommendations to HHS for priority actions to expand, coordinate, and condense programs in order to improve the health outcomes of people with ADRD and their families.

Advocacy & Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc.

As the primary advocate addressing Alzheimer’s related issues in the state of Tennessee, Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc. believes the ever-pressing needs of the Alzheimer’s community must be addressed and become state and federal priorities.

Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc. is known for its grassroots advocacy efforts. In 2007, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation into law to create a State Plan for Alzheimer’s — which also included public input. By February 2009, the Plan was drafted and presented to the Governor and legislators. Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc., our advocates, along with state leaders who included Sen. Tim Burchett and Rep. Joe Armstrong as primary sponsors of the bill were instrumental in making that plan happen.

We Need YOU and your voice!

Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc. has been asked to gather your thoughts on how the U.S. Government, the private sector, and non-profits can mobilize and best support families facing Alzheimer’s as directed by the National Alzheimer’s Project Act (NAPA).

We will be gathering your thoughts and ideas online and at events during the month of November, National Alzheimer’s Awareness month.

Please leave your comments below or e-mail them directly to federalfeedback@TNalz.org

We hope you will share your thoughts and ideas about this question:
“How can we address issues connected to Alzheimer’s disease when it comes to research, care and services?”
